TERRE HAUTE —
Jeffrey Max Nicholas
(1951-2013)
Jeffrey Max Nicholas, 61, who grew up in Terre Haute, left this world on Feb. 15, 2013. Jeff had lived in the Palm Springs, Calif., area for several years and passed away there after a battle with lung disease. Jeff was born in Terre Haute, on April 4, 1951.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite (Pat) Nicholas; and his father, John Charles Nicholas.
Jeff's fiancé and best friend, Christine Loya, remained devoted to him even as his health declined. Jeff is survived by his two daughters, Allison (Allie) and Lauren Nicholas, both living in the Portland, Ore., area. Throughout his life his daughters remained a source of love and pride. Jeff also leaves behind two brothers, Jerry M. Doolittle of Terre Haute and John A. Nicholas of Gentryville, Ind. Jeff also leaves behind a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jeff was a graduate of Honey Creek High School and Indiana University earning a Liberal Arts degree. He excelled as a football running back, a starting guard on the basketball team, and a single-digit handicap golfer who was runner-up in the City Junior Golf Championship at age 15. He retained a love of sports throughout his life.
While at IU, Jeff proved to be a master prankster, borrowing the closely guarded “Old Oaken Bucket” from arch rival Purdue and presenting it to the IU football coach to the rousing cheers of the entire student body.
Jeff lived a full life in his 61 years, richly impacting the lives of so many. He was charismatic and passionate with a true love for life. Family and friends know that without him the world is somehow more devoid of the color it once had. Jeff passed on with few regrets. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held in the coming days in Palm Springs.
