Margaret Patricia Chenoweth

CLAY CITY — Margaret Patricia “Pat” Chenoweth, 78, of Clay City, passed away at Exceptional Living Center, in Brazil, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.

She was born in Indianapolis, March 16, 1934, the daughter of Roscoe David and Nellie Ruth (Vess) Ruffin. She attended St. Mary’s and St. Agnes high schools in Indianapolis. Pat worked at the Stop and Shop in Speedway for many years, where she got to meet many of the race car drivers. She married Roy W. Chenoweth on June 19, 1969. She and Roy moved to Coal City in 1987, and then Clay City in 1994.  

She was a member of Coal City United Methodist Church. She was a founding member of Coal City American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Pat enjoyed traveling, going on walks, and listening to country music. While she lived in Indianapolis, she volunteered at school 54 “Brookside Elementary” and served as a member of the Parent-Teachers Association.

In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard Ruffin, William Ruffin, James Ruffin, and Thomas Ruffin.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Chenoweth of Clay City; children, Lola Meadors Stainbrook, John Chenoweth (June), Roy Chenoweth Jr. (Sue), Justin Chenoweth, and Ruthann Chenoweth; grandchildren, Ashley, Roxanne, Jillian, Brigette, Randi, Kirsten, Brooke, and Michael; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Teresa Carter Sackett and husband Jim; a brother, Michael Ruffin and wife Janice; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, in Clay City, Monday, March 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, in Hall, Ind., Monday at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be at the funeral home, Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Research Foundation, 20256 S.
