Joellen Bell McKnight

TERRE HAUTE — Joellen Bell McKnight, 77, of Terre Haute, passed away at 1:41 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, in Union Hospital. She was a claims analyst for Plumber’s and Steamfitter’s Local 157 for many years, and a transcriptionist at Indiana State University. Joellen was born Aug. 28, 1935, in Pimento, to Curtis Elza Bell and Essa Ferol (Manuel) Bell.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Stephanie Gibson and her husband Harry, Kimberly Ferol Simmons and her husband Anthony, Patrice Cooper and her husband Eric, Tracy Elise McKnight and special friend Tommie, and Lonna Jo Otis and husband Ronald; a son, Cameron Leon McKnight and his wife Eyvette; a sister, Geraldine Tillman and her husband Otis; three brothers, Stuart K. Bradshaw and his wife Janice, Gregory C. Bell and his wife Mary #2, and Garrett M. Bell and his wife Mary #1; a sister-in-law, Virginia Ruth Chapman; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family. Joellen was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Olanza Leon McKnight, whom she married on Nov. 28, 1955, died Dec. 24, 2000.

She was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church and was a very active worker there. She enjoyed playing the piano and especially enjoyed shopping.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, from 5 until 8 p.m. in Second Missionary Baptist Church, 14th and Oak St., and again on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. in the church. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. with Pastor J. S. Barlston, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
