TERRE HAUTE — Herman A. “Tony” Koerner, 73, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012, at Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis. He was born July 20, 1938, to Robert and Dorothea (Winemiller) Koerner. Tony proudly served his country in the Air Force Reserves. He was a special education teacher for more than 30 years in Marshall, Ill.

He was a member of American Legion Post 104. Tony was known for his loyalty to his fellow veterans, helping out whenever and however he could. He liked fishing and setting off fireworks. He also enjoyed attending and participating in military and historical events, especially Civil War reenactments.

Tony is survived by his mother, Dorothea Koerner of Greenwood; Lois Koerner of Terre Haute and their children, Kelly McCreary and husband T. Michael of Townsend, Tenn., and John Kurtis Koerner of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Genevieve McCreary of Townsend, Anne Marie and Alexis Koerner of Farmersburg, Elizabeth, Benjamin, and Jordan Koerner of Terre Haute; a sister, Rita Waltz of Greenwood; a brother, Robert O. Koerner of Martinsville, Ind.; four nieces, one nephew, and his beloved dog, Daisy.

He was preceded in death by his father; a granddaughter, Faith Koerner; and a brother, David Koerner.

Visitation will be Friday, July 20, 2012, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, with T. Michael McCreary Sr. officiating.
