BRAZIL — Delores C. (Lawson) Howald, 82, of Brazil, passed away July 9, 2012, at Union Hospital, in Terre Haute, with her family by her side. Delores was born May 3, 1930, in Harmony, the daughter of Floyd and Verna (Girton) Lawson. She was part of the Van Buren graduating class of 1948. Following high school, she went to work as a bookkeeper for Mace Tire and Battery, in Brazil. Delores married Lester Howald on Sept. 23, 1950. Following working for Mace Tire and Battery, she went to work for Community Action Program of Clay, Owen, and Putnam counties. Then she went to work for WWCM Radio Station, as a bookkeeper. After working for the radio station she went to work for Lynch’s John Deere Dealership, in Knightsville, as a bookkeeper until she retired.
Delores is a member of Community Missionary Church, and also had been a member of Harmony Community Church. She was a member of the "Harmony Harmonaires", Harmony Women’s Missionary Group, Harmony Good Samaritans, and was on a weekly bowling league in past years.
She enjoyed swimming with family and friends, her dogs, watching Indiana University basketball and the Indianapolis Colts, along with NASCAR races and going to the Indianapolis 500 races for years. She also enjoyed going to Florida with her family. She loved entertaining family and friends especially during the holidays and being a grandma.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill Lawson and Dale Lawson; and a sister-in-law: Doris Lawson.
Delores is survived by her husband; son, Rod Howald and wife Nancy of Brazil; daughter, Sue A. Tucker of Center Point; grandchildren, Cody Tucker and wife Amy of Brazil, Brittney Tucker of Center Point; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Services will be Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Lawson-Miller Chapel, with Pastor Kenny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, July 12, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Community Missionary Church, 21 W.
