Casey, Ill. —
Orville W. “Bud” Simonton, 86, of Casey, passed away at 5:14 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County. He was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Argenta, the son of Benjamin Franklin Simonton and Ada May (Arthur) Simonton. On Jan. 9, 1949, he married Faye E. Callahan, in Casey.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Faye; sons, Gary Simonton and wife Nancy (Burnett) of Casey, Dennis Simonton of Marshall, and Ron Simonton and wife Gail (Cox) of Martinsville; grandchildren, Nicole “Nici” Leigh Evers and husband Todd; John Taylor “J.T.” Simonton and wife Janine and their children, Landon Taylor and Lydia Maurine; Alan James “A.J.” Simonton and wife Valerie; Jordan Lucas Simonton; Patrick Benjamin Simonton; and Leslee Ann Maynard and husband Matthew and their child, Paul Thomas; and a brother, Merle Simonton and wife Eleanor of Ankey, Iowa. He was in preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Linda Rogene Simonton; brother, Roy “Jack” Simonton and wife Ann; and sisters, Mabel Newburn and Mildred Quick.
Bud was a lifelong farmer in the Casey and Martinsville area from 1950 to present and owned and operated the Simonton Hardware Store, in Westfield, from 1973 to 1977. He served in the U. S. Army as an MP in Japan after World War II, was a member of Milmine Church of God, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of Clark County Shrine Club, and a member of the Casey Veterans of Foreign Wars. He drove the starting gate for horse races in local and state fairs in Illinois, Indiana and Tennessee for many years. Bud was road commissioner for 16 years in Parker Township, and served on the Clark County board and was a former Casey city councilman.
Public visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. CDT, at the Markwell Funeral Home. Private family funeral services are the wishes of the family with Brother Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow later at Washington Street Cemetery, with graveside military rites by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion.
