PARIS, ILL. —
Shirley I. Dalrymple, 81, of Paris, passed away 4:39 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Union Hospital, in Terre Haute, Ind. She was born Nov. 19, 1930, in Martinsville, a daughter of Chester and Alta Strieker Cook. She married Chester Jean Dalrymple on Feb. 14, 1953, in The Baptist Church of Chrisman, by Rev. F. E. Pyle.
Survivors include her husband; a sister, Carolyn Hartley and husband Keith of Chatham; sister-in-law, Dorothy Dalrymple of Warren, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Marion (Jean) Cook of Martinsville, Steve (Jane) Blair, and Jim Blair, all of Paris, Dr. Becky Hartley of Warsaw, Mo., Bryan (Dee) Hartley of Dawson; Doug (Claudia) Dalrymple of Cortland, Ohio, Steve (Betsy) Dalrymple of Warren, Ohio, Mary (Marty) Patrick of Hubbard, Ohio, and Charles Dalrymple, Williamsburg, Va.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Vernon Cook; sister-in-law, Mildred Cook; sister, Bettie Blair; brother-in-law, John Blair; brother-in-law, Carl Dalrymple; nieces, Judith Cook and Debbie Dalrymple.
She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1949, and moved to Paris, where she was a dental assistant for Dr. Nolan M. Sullivan. She attended night classes at Lake Land College and received Dental Assisting Certification, C.D.A. Upon Dr. Sullivan's retirement, she worked for Dr. Gene Sunkel. She was very active in the Eastern Illinois Dental Assistants Association, serving as president, vice-president and secretary-treasurer.
Shirley was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, a 50-year member of Chapter 7 Order of the Eastern Star, was a life member CDA emeritus, and Holiday Rambler RV Club emeritus.
Shirley loved reading, flowers, baking (to share with friends), crafts and traveling in their RV. Shirley was a true loving partner to Jean.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. CDT Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, in Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael C. Dixon officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, in Chrisman. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Paris. For more information and online condolences please go to:
