Billy Jay Brummett, 84, of Terre Haute, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Cobblestone Crossing Health Campus in Terre Haute. He was a retired professor from Indiana State University and Ivy Tech. Following his retirement as an educator, he spent over 20 years as a bus driver for Vigo County Schools, and previously drove for Turner Coaches for eight years.

He was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Chrisman, Ill., the son of the late James Harvey and Charlotte (Minnick) Brummett. He married Marilyn Crawford on June 1, 1951, in Clinton. She preceded him in death March 15, 1999.

Survivors include three daughters, Reneé (Niles) Newton, Lisa (Tom) Sanders, and Michele (Brian) Francis; two sisters, Betty Heidenreich and Jane Inman; five grandchildren, Hilary (Randy) Peterson, Lacey (Mike) Morris, Ashleigh (Wade Hux) Sanders, Ian Francis, and Hallie Francis; three great-grandchildren, Jay Peterson, Olivia Crist, and Gabriella Marshall; two cousins, Sam (Saunny) Preston and Betty Jo Hatfield; and a special friend, Ms. Buddy Berry.

Mr. Brummett was a 1945 graduate of Wiley High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Central Presbyterian Church of Terre Haute. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to Central Presbyterian Church of Terre Haute.
