Helen Maxine Whitehead Shirley

Helen Maxine Whitehead Shirley, 90, of Terre Haute died peacefully Saturday, August 25, 2012 in Union Hospital. She was born September 19, 1921 in Kokomo, IN to Orville Whitehead and Hestie Crousore Whitehead. Helen was affiliated with H. P. Shirley Company from 1957 – 1972 and Shirley Supply Company from 1973 - 1985.  She was preceded in death by her husband James Keith Shirley on April 15, 1999.  

Survivors include her son, Dana D. Shirley and his wife Mary Owens Shirley of Denver, CO; daughter, Sandra Shirley Hunter and her husband James Robert Hunter of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Jonathan Ross Hunter and his wife Michele Howard Hunter of Terre Haute and Meredith Shirley Hunter Minné and her husband Alec Minné of Atlanta, GA; great grandchildren, Ethan James Hunter, John Robert Hunter, Haley Sandra Minné, and Hunter David Minné; brother-in-law, Paul Shirley of Terre Haute; sister-in-law, Norma Whitehead of Tipton, IN; and many loved nieces and nephews.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert Whitehead and James Phillip Whitehead; and sisters, LaVonne Miller and Mildred Bogue.     

Helen was the oldest member of Rock Prairie Baptist Church in Tipton, IN and the oldest member of North Terre Haute Baptist Church.  She was very active with her Sunday School Classes and devoted to her church and family.  Helen cherished a house full of family, especially when her great grandchildren visited, the simple things in life and the achievements of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 30, 2012 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with Pastor Paul Carey, Pastor Mark Tobey, and Pastor Kevin Carr officiating.  Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.  Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 11:00 A. M.  – 1:00 P.M. on Thursday.  Pall bearers will be Robert Whitehead, Jr., Ronald Miller, Alec Minné, Roger Whitehead, Jonathan Hunter, and David Shirley.  Our family would like to thank Dr. Camillo Mendoza for his care and compassion throughout our mother’s illness.  The family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made to North Terre Haute Baptist Church, 2944 E. Hall Ave., Terre Haute, IN  47805 or Rock Prairie Baptist Church, 421 N. Ash St., Tipton, IN  46702.
