Joe E. Thompson

SHELBURN — Joe E. Thompson, of Shelburn, died at 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at his residence. Mr. Thompson was born July 7, 1927, the son of Fred and Florence (Hauger) Thompson. Joe had formerly worked for Davidson Machine Shop in Sullivan and in recent years was with Thompson Machine and Welding in Shelburn.  Joe was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Virginia; brothers, Edward “Bud”, Robert; grandson, Eric P. Dodd; and beloved dog, Rascal. Mr. Thompson is survived by his devoted wife, Nita (Moore) Thompson; daughter, Sue (Jerry) Vinyard of Clinton; son, Joe Ed (Peggy) Thompson of Shelburn; grandchildren, Michael J. Thompson, Sean (fiancee Ashley Goldner) Vinyard, and Joshua T. (fiancee Candace Mills) Thompson; also nieces, Cheryl Morin, Paula Wilson, and Tanna Shepherd; and nephew, Bill Sanders. Additional survivors include brother-in-law, Ed (Barbara) Moore and their family of Kentucky; sister-in-law, Rosemary Burnett of Shelburn; stepgranddaughter, Jennifer Wilson; great-grandsons, Camden P. Vinyard and Alexander P. Thompson; stepgreat-grandson, Andrew Wilson; and special grandsons, Justin M. (Hanna) Tryon and Daniel Stout. He also is survived by special friend, Carol Hansen and her family.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Little Flock Cemetery in Shelburn with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Per Joe’s request, please no flowers. He preferred donations be made in his name to Riley Children’s Hospital,  Hospice, Humane Shelter or a charity of your choice. Food will provided following the service at First Christian Church in Sullivan. Arrangements are under the direction of Simple Cremations and Burials.
