David Franklin ‘Bud’ English

BRAZIL — David Franklin “Bud” English passed away on March 1, 2013. Mr. English was born on May 30, 1942, in Savannah, Ga., to Archie and Iva “Mammy” English who preceded him in death. He was raised on Tybee Island, Ga.

In 1959, he left school and joined the U.S. Navy, where he served on the first crew of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise, fueling planes on the flight deck.

In 1964, he married Frances Georgette Hucks and began work at Great Dane Trailers in Savannah. In 1975, he was transferred to Brazil as the plant superintendent of the new factory, a position he served in until his retirement in 2002.

His many hobbies included hunting, woodworking, and restoring 57 Chevys. He was especially proud of his two fully restored cars, which won many trophies at car shows. He also enjoyed working on his tractor.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, David (Donna Dene) English and Brian English; five siblings, Herbert English, Archie (Blendith) English, John (Wilma) English, Bonnie Martin, and Eugene (Sally) English; a sister-in-law, Judy Harris; a brother-in-law, Rick Hucks; four grandchildren, Sean English, Jacob English, Shayla English and Alejandro English; and many nieces and nephews.

He was baptized as a young boy in the Atlantic Ocean and attended church at Ebenezer Church.

Services will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Lawson-Miller Chapel with the Rev. Bill Price officiating. Burial will follow at Croy’s Creek Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Navy. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Tuesday prior to services. Pallbearers will include Fred Nevils, Dave Kennedy, Steve Bucholz, Mark Bucholz, Charlie Emery, John Palm, Lee Wise, and Rick Ellison. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in his honor to Ebenezer Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Light a candle in his memory at:
