Dennison, Ill. — Robert C. Schacht, 81, of Dennison, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, in his residence. He retired after many years as a professor from Indiana State University. He was born Oct. 31, 1931, in Bismarck, N.D. to Paul and Anna Schacht.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Morrill Schacht. They were married on Jan. 10, 1956, in Orleans, France, by the Mayor of Orleans and an army chaplain. Nina preceded him in death on June 17, 2005.

Survivors include his daughter, Bette Ann “Toni” Minniear and her husband Harry of Terre Haute; and his son, Robert C. Schacht of Mooresville.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fossil hunting, playing bridge, a good bargain, and his grandpups. Remember Bob as a non extravagant man who enjoyed life and simple pleasures.

There will be a reception and celebration of his life from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., in West Terre Haute, with no formal services. According to his wishes, cremation has been scheduled. A private service will be at a later date with the burial of Bob and Nina’s ashes in Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Ind. The family request that no flowers be sent and that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Schacht Scholarship, c/o Indiana State University, Foundation Office, 30 N. 5th St., Terre Haute, IN 47809 or to Terre Haute Humane Society, 1811 S. Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803. There will also be envelopes available in the funeral home.
