Ralph Miller Jr., 68 of Altamont, Ill., died at 7 a.m., Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Ralph was born on Dec. 12, 1944, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Ralph Miller Sr. and Katherine (Myers) Miller. He graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical High School, in Terre Haute, in 1963, was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1963-1967. He married Linda Startz on March 22, 1969, in Thornton, Ill. He was a retired signal inspector with the Union Pacific Railroad, an active member of Altamont Christian Church, member of Mill Road Threshermen Association, a volunteer with Effingham County Fair, member of Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman, and also was an avid Hoosier fan.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Charlie Miller and wife Penny and Tim Miller and his wife Dianna, both of Altamont; his brother, Steve Miller and his wife Linda of Terre Haute; his sisters, Betty Mattick and her husband Charles of Rosedale, Ind., and Helen Monroe of Terre Haute; sister-in-law, Janet Miller of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; grandchildren, Kayla Sain and her husband Jaz of Altamont, Tabby Harada and her husband Greg of Spokane, Wash., Ashley Miller of Effingham, and Jacob Miller and Caden Miller, both of Altamont. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gary; and his brother-in-law, Steve Monroe.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. CST Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Altamont Christian Church with Shannon Bopp officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at the church and for one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Altamont, with military rites by Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger V.F. W. Post 7676, Altamont. Memorials may be made to Altamont Christian Church or Lincolnland Hospice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at:
