Howard Davis, 85, of Terre Haute, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 7:27 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born on Oct. 31, 1926, to George and Dorothy Mae Marsh Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lily M. Ayers Davis, in December 1996. They were married on June 28, 1953 in Glencoe, Mo. He is survived by special friends, Becky and Dayton Faris of Terre Haute; as well as his church family.

Howard retired as a chemist for the former Commercial Solvents Corporation after 40 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from January 1945 through 1950, and also was a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves for several years. He was a member of Wabash Valley React and also did security for many High School and ISU sporting events. He and his wife enjoyed traveling across the country on their Harleys, as well as traveling abroad to several countries, including missionary trips to Guatamala. He enjoyed reading about military history.

Howard was a member of First Baptist Church, West Terre Haute, for over 50 years, serving in various capacities, including deacon, treasurer, usher and singing in the choir. It was his wish to donate his body to IU Medical Center for medical research. His ashes will reside at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.

A memorial service will be held for Howard at First Baptist Church, West Terre Haute, 205 S 5th St., on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at 6 p.m., with Pastor Jeff Augustus officiating.
