Larry D. Jewell

Larry D. Jewell, 73, of Terre Haute, passed away Oct. 28, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, surrounded by his family. Larry was born Nov. 7, 1938, in Terre Haute, to Herbert Leroy Jewell and Frances Grigsby. He graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical High School in 1956, and had attended Indiana State University. Larry worked as a Realtor for the past 33 years at Coldwell Banker. Previously he spent 16 years as a sales representative for Nabisco Products.

He was a member of Terre Haute Area Association of Realtors, Indiana Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Second Christian Church in Terre Haute, William Penn Masonic Lodge, Zorah Shrine and Scottish Rite. He was a life-long Chicago Cubs fan and a huge fan of Indiana State Athletics, I.U. basketball and Notre Dame football. Larry was a Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coach for many years, as well as a basketball coach at the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club. He was both an excellent bowler and softball player, even being inducted into the Terre Haute Softball Hall of Fame. Larry was a very big community advocate giving his heart to his town and will be missed by many.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marcella Phelps Jewell; two sons, Kevin Jewell and wife Jaynie of Avon, and Jeff Jewell of Terre Haute; one daughter, Amy Roscoe and husband Ryan of Terre Haute; one brother, Mark A. Jewell and wife Nancy of Lafayette; one aunt, Donna Parsons of Terre Haute; and nine grandchildren, Taylor, Tiffany, Brianna, Sarah, Austin, James, Andrew, Rylee and Raegan. He also is survived by many very special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him deeply.  

Visitation for Larry will be today, Nov. 1, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m., with Masonic services to be conducted at 7 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 1012, with visitation from 12 noon until service time. Pastor Mark Grayless will be officiating. Cremation has been scheduled. Online condolences may be made at:
