James Martin Burns passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in Phoenix, Ariz. Born in West Terre Haute Ind., to Martin and Nellie Burns on Dec. 9, 1923. Jim was a graduate of Concannon High School, class of 1943. He served in World War II as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army and earned four distinguished Bronze Ribbons and the Medal of Honor.

He married Colleen Fuller in May of 1943. Jim and Colleen were together for 55 years. She lived for him and he lived for her. Jim retired from the railroad and they relocated permanently to Phoenix, in 1991. He was a “jack of all trades” and had a caring and generous personality. Colleen passed away Jan. 6, 1998.

He is survived by his two sons and one daughter, Tim, Johnny and Vicki; plus five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his yellow Labrador “Trixie” his baby.

Family asks that you share memories and if you choose, to support the Veterans of Foreign Wars in c/o Pete Rosales, 6014 W. Cypress, Phoenix, AZ 85035. Services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at VA National Memorial Cemetery, in Phoenix.

Jim, Jimbo, Dad, Daddy, Uncle Jimmy, Grandpa, Jimmy and Jimmy Burns will be greatly missed.
