Edna Marie Favre

TERRE HAUTE — Edna Marie Favre, 87, of Terre Haute passed away on October 10, 2012 at Davis Gardens Health Center surrounded by her family. She was born August 26, 1925, in Terre Haute to Carl Shafer and Edna Bryant Shafer. She was raised in Pimento, Indiana. She attended Pimento High School and was a member of the class of 1942.

She married her husband James H. Favre in Poughkeepsie, New York, on September 14, 1944.  She and her husband were owners of Hoosier Traders Furniture Store for over 35 years in Terre Haute.

James H. Favre her husband of 31 years preceded her in death on October 24, 1975.

She is survived by her three daughters, Amy and (John) Thomas of Terre Haute, Rebecca Favre of Houston, Texas, Susan and (Jim) Johnson of Tomball, Texas. She also leaves behind two grandsons, J.C. Thomas and Matthew James Thomas, both of Terre Haute; two sisters, Geneva Miller of Terre Haute and Loretta Jean Krause of Monroeville, Pennsylvania; two brothers, James  Shafer of Terre Haute and Carl and (Betty) Shafer of Spring, Texas. She has eleven nieces and eleven nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Edna Shafer and a sister Betty Firmani.

Marie was a terrific homemaker and mother who loved to take care of her 3 daughters. During her younger years she loved to travel. Marie was an avid reader who enjoyed reading a variety of books. She loved to cook especially at the holidays where you would always find homemade cookies. She loved attending to her roses in her garden. Marie was a member of the North Terre Haute Baptist Church. She was a bowler with Art Compton league for over 60 years. In her spare time she enjoyed being with her family, her 2 grandchildren and her dog Sammi. Marie was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt, but most of all she was loved by all and will be missed.

A special thank you to Davis Garden Health Center’s nursing staff and Hospice of the Wabash Valley who provided comfort and skilled care along with compassion during her last days.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home 605 South 25th St. David Grubb will be officiating. Graveside services will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, and one hour before services the day of the funeral.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society and Pet Adoption Center,  P.O. Box 3307, Terre Haute, IN 47803.
