Ray L. Strole

Ray L. Strole, 85, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at his residence. Ray was born May 16, 1927, in New Goshen, to Wayne Strole and Wilma Richardson Strole.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lucille Williams Strole, whom he married Nov. 8, 1947, in New Goshen; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Tony Macak, and Kathy and Mike Miller; four grandchildren, Robin (Chris) Wilbur, Brad (Brandy) Macak, Bridget (Trent) Short, and Jason (Amy) Macak; seven great-grandchildren, Cody Thornton, Corinne Thornton, Reese Wilbur, Dakota Short, Devon Short, Emmy Macak, Grace Macak, and Baby Macak who is due in November; four sisters, Leah VanHoutin, Ruth McCleary, Charity (Pete) Kehoe, and Doris Flowers; a brother, Robert (Phyllis) Strole; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Irene Preston; and six brothers, Donald, John, Dale, Ronald, Marvin, and Larry Strole.

Ray was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of West Terre Haute Lodge 687 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute; the Zorah Shrine, American Legion Post 0404 in Prairie Creek, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574 in West Terre Haute, and a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Ray was a graduate of Fayette High School Class of 1945. He retired from dairy farming in 1992. He enjoyed country living on the farm and dearly enjoyed his family.

Ray’s funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with the  Revs. Chris Wilbur and Coleen Harden officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by the Vigo County Veterans Honorguard. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m. There will also be visitation prior to services on Friday. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of The Wabash Valley or Emmanuel United Methodist Church, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
