Louise M. (Brown) Hamilton

TERRE HAUTE — Louise M. Hamilton, 92, of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012, at Davis Gardens Health Center surrounded by her family. She was born on Dec. 9, 1919, in Terre Haute, to Lester G. Brown and Hester L. (Kellams) Brown.

Louise graduated from Garfield High School in 1938. In her early years she worked at Quaker Maid. For most of her life, she was a loving and caring housewife and mother of six children. For many of those years, she also provided loving child care for many other children. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed spending most of her free time with her family. After raising her family, she worked as a cook of the Vigo County School Corporation at Honey Creek Middle School until her retirement.

She was a member of the American LaFrance Fireman’s Auxiliary for many years serving as president and vice-president. Louise was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church for 76 years, serving as deaconess and a member of the missionary society. She always enjoyed her church family and was involved with many committees and activities.

Louise is survived by her six children, Larry R. Hamilton and his wife Jayme, Linda K. McKee and her husband Bill, Betty J. Downey and her husband Leo, Shirley A. Stoneburner and her husband Chuck, Ralph L. Hamilton and his wife Patricia, and Anita L. Hewitt and her husband Jim; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Maurer; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ralph R. Hamilton; her parents; her twin brother, Louis E. Brown; brother, Gilbert Brown; sister, Geraldine Sisson; and a grandson, Randy R. Hamilton.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the funeral home with Pastor Dick Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, 2128 Eighth Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47804 or Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 400 Eighth Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47804.
