MARSHALL, ILL. — Douglas Scott Runyon, 47, of Marshall, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at his home. He was owner and operator of Dignitary Protection Group of Terre Haute, Ind., and was formerly employed at WTHI Television at Terre Haute for approximately 10 years, where he served as news director. He was born Aug. 27, 1964, at Crawfordsville, Ind., the son of Melvin Runyon and Shirley Heslar Runyon. He married Kelly Cress on June 4, 1999, at Grand Lake, Colo.

Surviving are his wife, Kelly; his parents of Crawfordsville; a brother, Steve (Julie) Runyon of Charleston, Ill.; a sister, Jane (Tom) Murray of Crawfordsville; his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Doris Cress of Alton, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Kim (Mike) Johns of Godfrey, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Jeff (Jackie) Cress of Edwardsville, Ill; nieces and nephews, Aimee Dixon, Aaron Allee, Chris Walsh, Ashley Johns, Steven Johns, Drew Cress, Jeffrey Cress and Emma Cress.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Marshall, and Clark County Knights of Columbus. He was a 1982 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University. He also took special training at Quantico.

He loved to golf, loved his dogs, and was a collector of police and military patches.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. CST Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Marshall, with the Rev. Mike Haag officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Marshall. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday with a liturgical wake service at 4 p.m. at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. 6th St., in Marshall. In lieu of flowers, it is requested memorials in his memory be made to Toys for Tots Program of Clark County Knights of Columbus.
