Mary Alice Curl

PARIS, IL — Mary Alice Curl, 93, of Paris, Ill., passed away at 10:08 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at her home.

She was a bookkeeper and co-owner of Curl’s Grocery Store. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Altar Society, American Legion Post 211 Auxiliary, V.F.W. Post 3601 Auxiliary, the crisis pregnancy center board and a former board member of the Chester P. Sutton Senior Center. She was a quilter at the senior center and read books to the residents of Brookstone Estates of Paris.

Mary was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Edgar County, Ill., the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Nelle Houghton Goodwin. She married Bernard F. Curl, Oct. 24, 1950. in Mt. Carmel, Ill. and he passed away Aug. 17, 1990.

Mary is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Anita Martin of Paris, Dan Goodwin of Salem, Mo.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother C.P. (Bill) Goodwin, of Paris; her sister Ferne Somerville of Michigan; and her nephew Max Goodwin, of Terre Haute.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Curl will be 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. David Zimmerman officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Wake prayer services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, in the funeral home. After the services, cremation is planned with burial of the cremains in St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date.

Donations may be made to the Chester P. Sutton Senior Center or the Crisis Pregnancy Center in care of Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.
