Kathleen Bell-Walker passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Kathy was born to George and Norma (Stewart) Bell, in Jackson Township, Brazil, on Aug. 13, 1953. She graduated from Brazil High School, class of 1971, and later Indiana State University in 1977.
Kathy had a long and successful career in broadcasting spanning over 23 years. Her broadcasting career in media sales began with The Oakridge Boys Broadcasting and included her nine years as general sales manager with WMGI/WWSY FM stations in Terre Haute. She was the executive director of Recovery Associates (private non-profit) from 2007 - 2010. Her last employment was at Furniture Gallery, in Terre Haute. Kathy was highly involved in the Wabash Valley community as a volunteer and supporter of many non-profit organizations. She was involved on the local, state, and national level of the March of Dimes and held their mission close to her heart. Kathy was a past board member of the United Cerebral Palsy organization, involved locally and on the state level. She was a longtime member of First Congregational Church of Terre Haute and had been chairperson of one of the StrawberryFest events. Kathy will be remembered for her contributions to her community, her lasting friendships, devotion to her family and sense of integrity in all she did.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Norma (Stewart) Bell. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Timothy Walker of Terre Haute: stepdaughter, Audrey Lynn Walker; her brother, Steven Bell (Michelle); aunt to Geoffrey Bell and Carlee Bell; aunt and uncles, Gynelle (Richard) Stearley and Robert (Gertrude) Bell, and several cousins; sister and brothers-in-law, Judy and Blase Catanese, Jacquie Denehie, Michael Walker, Patrick and Dr. Grace Walker, Joe Walker; and several nieces and nephews. Kathy was surrounded by many, many friends during her short illness, who visited her at home, in the hospital, or the rehab facility.
Visitation will be held at Moore Funeral Home, 142 N. Washington St., in Brazil, on Thursday, March 14, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. Celebration of life services will be held at First Congregational Church of Terre Haute, 630 Ohio St., in Terre Haute, on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in memory of Kathleen Bell-Walker to First Congregational Church of Terre Haute. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
