TERRE HAUTE — Philip Ray Thompson, 70, formerly of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, in Greenwood. He was born in Vincennes on Feb. 24, 1943, to the late Norman and Helen (Sumner) Thompson.

Philip is survived by his wife of 46 years, Martha (Merry) Thompson; daughters, Amber (Greg) Derickson and Nicole Thompson; grandchildren, Nathan and Sydni Derickson; siblings, John Thompson of Vincennes, Dixie Thompson of Duck Key, Fla., and Janis Shear of Pompano Beach, Fla.

Philip graduated from Lincoln High School and Vincennes University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a senior master sergeant of the Air National Guard, having retired after 27 years. Before retiring in 2008 from Environmental Management Corporation, he was a superintendent for wastewater treatment plants in Evansville, Terre Haute, and Vincennes. He taught Water Pollution Control at the Junior College level for over 10 years. He was a member of WEF, SWIOA, and SIOA. He also was a member and the 1997 Vice President of IWPCA. In 1986, he won the Tumble Bug Award for outstanding service from IWPCA and the Hatfield Award in 1988.

Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel.
