TERRE HAUTE — James Kennady, age 83, passed peacefully in home on Feb. 10, 2012. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Jim was born and raised in Owensboro, Ky., lived in southern Indiana and retired to Sarasota Fla., after working for 28 years as a pharmaceutical salesman.

In 1967 he fulfilled one of his life goals by reaching the summit of the 14,692 ft. Matterhorn Mountain, near Zermatt, Switzerland. Throughout his life he was passionate about many things, from European travel to sport car clubs to the Ringling Museum of Art. All who knew him could attest to his love of comedy, collecting, conversation, infinite energy, uplifting spirit and endless story-telling. Jim was a devout Catholic, a responsible father, proud of his family, and successfully raised his children to be educated, informed, compassionate and responsible citizens.

He is survived by his sister, Marybelle; son, James; daughter, Sarah; and two grandchildren.

He will lie in rest at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc. 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238; or Big Cat Habitat, 7101 Palmer Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34240.
