CASEY, ILL. —
CASEY, Ill. — Charles W. “Bill” Savage, 78, of Casey, and Naples, Fla., passed away at 9:35 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Casey Health Care Center. He was born March 23, 1933, in Fairfield, the son of Charles E. Savage and Anna Louise Nielsen Savage. On Jan. 9, 1984, he married Claudette A. Jennings, in Casey. She passed away Oct. 7, 1997.
Survivors include son, Chris Savage and wife Carol of Martinsville; daughter, Diane Anderson and husband Tim of Casey, daughter, Jeannie Rosenberry of Sheboygan, Wis.; son, Lindsey Tanner and wife Frances of Atlanta; daughter, Traci Johnson of Casey; sister, Joyce Biggs and husband Ben of Atlanta; mother of his children, Shirley Beeson Savage of Casey; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Claudette A. Savage; and infant grandsons, Charles Eric Savage and Christopher Tanner.
Bill, along with his father, was the owner and operator of Savage Auto Sales in Casey, from 1947 through the mid 1990’s. He was a retired Mayor for the City of Casey, from 1977 to 1985 and 1993 to 1999. He had previously served as an alderman from 1975 to 1977. Bill was instrumental in the City of Lights project, the new water towers and many of the road, sidewalk and storm water drain projects in and around Casey, including the Route 49 project to widen the road with a turn lane. Bill was the first Mayor of Casey to join the Central Illinois Municipal Official Association and was a member of the Southern Mayor’s Association. He was a member of the Clark County Shrine Club, which helped to establish the Shriner’s Fourth of July Parade held each year in Casey, and a member of the Clark County Shrine’s Motorcycle Patrol 1040.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be 11 a.m. CST Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Inurnment will be in Casey Cumberland Cemetery, at a later date. The family will greet visitors from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
