TERRE HAUTE — Richard S. Armstrong entered God’s Heaven on Feb 3, 2012. He was born Aug. 8, 1932, in East Alton, Ill. He was a Navy veteran called, “Army” by his peers. He served from Oct 22, 1951 - Oct 13, 1955.

“If there be any truer measure of a man than by what he does, it must be by what he gives”.

Richard and Norma were married in Terre Haute, Ind., on Feb 23, 1957. He was a wonderful, loving “Poppy” to his two daughters, Donna Stayner (Tim) and Rosie Kennedy (George). Poppy was richly blessed with four grandchildren, Jami White (Paul), Matthew Rhoden, Tiffany Daniels and Carlie Rhoden. To add to his joy and riches were his great-grandchildren, Corbyn, Riley and Lily Mae White, also David Matthew Rhoden. Richard has been Poppy to many children of family, friends and neighbors. In addition to his loving family, Richard is survived by a brother, Don Armstrong; two sisters, Mary Gardner and Emma Smiddy; a large family of wonderful nephews, nieces and cousins; several close friends; great neighbors; and the father of two of our grandchildren, Greg Rhodena brother-in-law, Vick Cottrell (Brenda); sisters-in-law, Jane Syndram, Judy Allsup (Ralph), Jean Graves, and Deb Rutledge (Don).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Fannie Armstrong; his first wife, Doris Counterman Armstrong; brothers, Andrew, Joe, David, Cecil, Herb, Jim and Ron Armstrong; two sisters, Ruth Hargis and Georgie Sams. Also his two special dogs, Sadie and Daisy.

As per his wishes, cremation has been chosen and entrusted to Feller and Clark of Auburn, Ind. A private family viewing and a family dinner was held in his honor. A great big thank you to all who have enriched our lives.
