Alberta V. (Joy) Flinn, 86, of West Terre Haute, passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 4, 2012. She was born July 21, 1925, in Dennison, Ill., to Albert (Bert) Joy and Retta Viola (Taylor) Joy. She was retired from Interstate Welding where she was employed for more than 25 years as an administrative assistant and bookkeeper. Prior to that she was a graduate of Marshall (Ill.) High School and she had also worked at Meis Department Store and Hazeldyne’s.
She was very dedicated to her family and viewed that as her greatest accomplishment. She took great pride in her grandsons and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her grandsons, Larry Dale Mason and wife Stephanie, great-grandchildren, Mary Paige and Draik of West Terre Haute; Ronnie Mason and Jennette Shaker of Terre Haute; her son-in-law, Larry Mason of West Terre Haute; a brother, Harry (Bill) Joy and wife Margie of West Terre Haute; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Joy of Dennison; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her only child, her daughter, Retta Mason; two sisters, Lucille Mann and husband, Richard Mann of Wilmington, Ill., and Dora Ellen Mann and husband, Orville Mann of Kankakee, Ill.; and a brother, Joseph (Bud) Joy of Dennison.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. today in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., West Terre Haute, with Pastor Jeff Augustus officiating. Burial will be in Dunlap Cemetery. Visitation is prior to services. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association due to her many years of involvement. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
