PARIS, Ill. — Mary Jo Gilbert, 80, of Paris, passed away at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted homemaker and had worked as a bookkeeper at Edgar County Bank of Paris for several years prior to marriage. She was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Paris, the daughter of the late Norman and Mabel (Stratton) Wittick. She married John Headley Gilbert on April 3, 1955, in Paris, and he survives.
Other survivors include a son, Mark (Jo Ellen) Gilbert of Paris; a daughter, Libby (Mike) Maggert of Paris; and five grandchildren, Ryan (Kelsey) Gilbert and Stephen Gilbert, both of Paris, Katy (Drew) Keenan of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Emily Maggert (fiance Jesse Fennell) of Muncie, Ind., and Sarah Maggert of Paris.
Mrs. Gilbert attended Indiana State University. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Paris for many years. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother; a proud grandmother whose grandchildren were the love of her life. She especially enjoyed flower gardening, her dogs and horses, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Services celebrating her life will be conducted at 10 a.m. CDT Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Templeton Funeral Home, 600 East Court St., in Paris. Burial will follow in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
