TERRE HAUTE — Allen Mason Rand, 75, of Attica and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away at his home on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at 9:30 a.m., after an 11-month battle with cancer. Allen was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Miami, Okla., to Dorothy Mason Rand and Burke Brown Rand. He graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. In 1961, he joined the Active Army Reserve, serving active duty for six months and then in the Army Reserve for the remainder of his enlistment.

On Sept. 2, 1961, Allen married Amelia H. Partington in Terre Haute, and she survives.

Survivors also include a son, Daniel Rand of Marion, Ohio; a daughter, Sara Julane Pycke (Jeffrey) of Attica; a son, Curtis Allen (Lisa Kleck) Rand of Leawood, Kan.; a brother, Robert of Terre Haute; a sister, Julane Helen Soares (Edward) of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Bryan, Bradley, Danielle and Logan Rand; Eli Merriman, Stuart, Carter and Cole Rand. All were the delight of Allen’s life as were Helen and George Harrison, who adopted him as “Pappa Allen.”

A son, Stuart Avery, preceded him in death at 7 years of age in 1970.

Visitation will be at the Attica First Lutheran Church, on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m., with Pastor Carolyn Lesmeister officiating. Internment of ashes will be made at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the I.U. Arnett Hospice, or the Fountain-Warren County Musical Arts c/o Mike Wrighthouse @Harrison Steel Co., or to Fountain County Landmarks, P.O. Box 124, Attica, IN 47918.
