Gerald C. (Jerry) Miller

TERRE HAUTE — Gerald C. (Jerry) Miller, 86, of Rocky River, Ohio, and Terre Haute, passed away, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013. He was born Sept. 8, 1926, in Mattoon, Ill., to Ralph Miller and Nellie Roney Miller.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy Haley Miller; his loving children, Gerald Michael Miller and his wife, Susan, of Riverside, Calif., Rosemary Rothkopf and her husband, Robert, of Indianapolis, and Annette Dever and her husband, Steve, of Rocky River, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Peg Miller; a sister-in-law, Lorene Miller; 10 grandchildren, Chet, Stephanie and Timothy Miller, Amanda, Stephen and Jackson Rothkopf, and Victoria, Monica, Samantha and Andrew Dever; five great-grandchildren, Sarah Orbe and Jacob, Luke, Janae and Alexis Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Timothy and Stephen Miller; and two brothers, Robert and William Miller.

Jerry was a civil engineer and proud graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a United States Navy veteran. He began his career as a civil engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad and then moved to Chicago to accept a position with Kentile Corporation as plant engineer. He later moved his family to Terre Haute to work for Haley Brothers Construction Company. Jerry spent the last 16 years of his career as the president and owner of Miller Engineering & Construction Co. in Terre Haute. He was a respected businessman and a dedicated member of St. Margaret Mary and St. Benedict Catholic churches. He was a devoted family man who was generous, kind, considerate and will be missed by all.

Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 in St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 S. Ninth St., with Father Ed Goldbach, OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military graveside honors provided by VFW Post #972. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Ohio Veteran’s Home, 3416 Columbus Drive, Sandusky, OH 44870.
