BROCTON, Ill. —
Donald H. Krabel, age 80, of Charleston, Ill., passed peacefully at home, on Jan. 25, 2013. Don was born March 8, 1932, in Brocton, to August Henry and Mabel (Craig) Krabel. He married Carolyn Henry, Ann Yangoren and Sondra Mae Larkins, they all preceded him in death.
He is survived by five children, Janeen (Tim) Diaz of Terre Haute, Ind., Patricia (Ray) Hoffman of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Colleen (Ross) Roberts of Mobile, Ala., Dawn (Todd) Parker of Kansas, Ill., and Hank (Jeri) Krabel of Charleston; one brother, Kenny (Becky) Krabel of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and one son, Marty Robling.
Don was a member of the Charleston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1592 and the Brocton American Legion Post 977, where he was a past commander. He enjoyed dove hunting, fishing and loved to dance. Don also was an avid collector of various items, including more than 100 walking canes. He will be greatly remembered by family and friends as the fun-loving man who was always well-dressed with a story to tell and lived the “good life.”
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. CST Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Krabel Funeral Home, in Oakland. Visitation will be held two hours prior, beginning at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Payne Cemetery.
