Ralph Dean ‘Bapaw’ Crowder

ROCKVILLE — Ralph Dean “Bapaw” Crowder, 79, of Rockville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, in his residence. He was a retired autobody mechanic and owner of Ralph’s Body Shop in Montezuma for 28 years. He was born Nov. 5, 1933, in Wallace, Ind., to the late Pearley Crowder and Flossie Kiger Crowder.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joyce W. McMurtry Crowder, whom he married Dec. 16, 1961 in Rockville; also surviving, four sons, Scott (Kim) Crowder of Montezuma, Jeff (Renee) Crowder of Nashville, Tenn., Roger (Dawn) Crowder of Rockville, and Matt (Leann) Crowder of Rosedale; two daughters, Debbie (Ben) Howard of Los Angeles and Diane (Kris) Unverzagt of Rockville; two brothers, Gerald (Nancy) Crowder of Rockville and Bob (Sherry) Crowder of Mansfield; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; special mention, Warren Thompson of Montezuma, Paula Hoke of Carbon, and Lori Mitchell of Greencastle; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Delp, Jessie Overpeck, and Juanita Taylor; one daughter, Janet Crowder Mitchell; and son-in-law John Mitchell.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving from 1950-1956 during the Korean War. He was a member of Rockville First Church of the Nazarene, American Legion Fellenzer Post 48 in Rockville, and Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 in Terre Haute.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, in Rockville First Church of the Nazarene, 262 South North Drive, in Rockville, with the Revs. Albert Riggle and Steve Glading officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by Parke County veterans will follow in Memory Garden Cemetery, in Rockville. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St. in Rockville and one hour before time of service at the church. Memorials, should friends so desire, may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 262 South North Drive, Rockville, IN 47872, in his memory.
