Alice Marie Nickel, 86, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Saturday Jan. 5, 2013, in Union Hospital at Terre Haute. She retired as a licensed practical nurse from Katherine Hamilton Mental Health Center in Terre Haute, after many years of service. She was born Feb. 4, 1926, in West Terre Haute, to Joseph Anderson Sr. and Lula Brown Anderson.

Survivors include two sons, Andy Nickel and his wife Gloria, and David Nickel, all of West Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Matt Nickel and his wife Rachael of Terre Haute, and Ashley Nickel of North Vernon; two great-grandchildren, Macy Rose Nickel and Drew Willard Nickel; three sisters, Rosemary Flener of Monroeville, Mildred Edwardson, of Terre Haute, and Betty Easthom, of North Terre Haute; a brother, Joe Anderson of Terre Haute; and 11 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her ex-husband, Willard Nickel.

Alice was a graduate of Concannon High School class of 1944. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, cooking, and she loved to mow her lawn which was several acres, where she was often seen out mowing and keeping it looking nice.

Funeral services for Alice will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley with envelopes available in the funeral home.
