Robert G. (Robe) Fazekas

Robert G. (Robe) Fazekas, PsyD, died on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012. He was born on Oct. 4, 1957, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Paul and Valerie (Kovacs) Fazekas, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; and beloved children, Allison Marie, Rachel Lynn and Eric Robert; his brother, Dr. Paul Fazekas and his wife Donna; sister, Martha; nephew, David; and niece, Valerie. Robe also held a special place in Mary’s family and is survived by his mother-in law, Rita Sweeney; five brothers-in-law and their families; as well as a large extended family.

Dr. Fazekas graduated summa cum laude from SUNY at Cortland with a B.S. in Psychology. He earned his Doctor in Psychology degree from Indiana State University. He was currently working as a psychologist at Riverfront Counseling Center in Vincennes. Prior to that he worked for almost 20 years at Hamilton Center, Inc. It was his privilege to have worked almost his entire tenure for former Hamilton Center CEO, Galen Goode, who was both his mentor and his close friend. He was also privileged to have formed professional and personal friendships with former co-workers, Susie Thompson, Dr. Robert Loheide, Dr. Jody Horstman, Dr. Cynthia Sartor, Dr. David Hilton, Rick Harden and Angie Lee. Dr. Fazekas was well known and respected throughout the state Community Mental Health System.

Robe was kind, caring, compassionate and generous. He possessed a genuine interest in and curiosity about people and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. He would do whatever he could to help someone who was struggling or simply needed someone to talk to. He will be forever missed by his family and friends. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers or memorials, a fitting tribute would be to do something kind for someone else.

There will be no public visitation. A private funeral service for family and close friends will be on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. Arrangements are under the direction of DeBaun Funeral Homes & Crematory. Online condolences may be left at: www.debaunfuneralhomes.com
