Joseph O. Cox

TERRE HAUTE — Joseph O. Cox, 83, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 3:35 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, in his residence. He retired from Monninger Concrete Products, in Terre Haute, after many years of service. He was born March 18, 1929, in New Goshen, to Joseph Owen Cox and Mary Emmalou Smith Cox. His wife, Dorothy L. Stockwell Cox, whom he married on June 5, 1948, preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 2006.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda D. Liberty and husband Albert A. Liberty of Terre Haute, and Judy Aiken of Terre Haute and her companion, George Baker of Bloomington; three sisters, Thelma Fulk of Terre Haute, Loretta Morris of Prairieton, and Ester Schaffer of New Goshen; two brothers, James Cox of Marshall, Ill., and Richard Cox of Florida; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Raymond A. Aiken; and several brothers and sisters.

He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 144 in Terre Haute. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, where he grew beautiful roses, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

 Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Swan officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday.
