Harry F. Rogers

TERRE HAUTE — Harry F. Rogers, 88, of Terre Haute, was called to Heaven on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, after several years of struggling with Alzheimer’s. He was born on July 2, 1924, in Terre Haute, to George and Addie (Yeager) Rogers. He married the love of his life, Rebecca Grindle, on March 19, 1942.

He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a gunner in Company C, 302 Infantry and served in Czechoslovakia, Germany, and France. He worked at Quaker Maid for 34 years as a supervisor in the shipping department and later as a guard before retiring in 1974. He and Rebecca built several homes together. He enjoyed building furniture. Harry cherished the time he spent with family and friends, especially the Saturday night euchre games.

Harry is survived by his daughter, Charlotte (Rogers) Shields of Terre Haute; a son, Ronald F. Rogers of LaPorte; grandchildren, Brenda James, Pamela Grooms, Lisa Fines, Owen Ray Rogers, and Heather Rogers; great-grandchildren, Emily, Hannah, Stormy, Luke, and Mark; sister, Helen Irene (Sadie) Shepard and her husband Harry Shepard Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Katherine Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his wife and soulmate, Rebecca (Grindle) Rogers; his parents; a brother, George E. Rogers Jr.; and sisters, Dorothy Peters, Agnes Reynolds, and Goldie Counterman.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N.
