MARTINSVILLE, Ill. — Edith Lafern Napier, 85, of Martinsville, passed away 1:35 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Lakeland Healthcare and Rehab Center in Effingham, Ill. She was born Dec. 4, 1927, in Marshall, Ill., the daughter of Jessie Shotts and Minnie Buckle Shotts. She married Delbert L. “Jack” Napier on Dec. 31, 1945 in Marshall, and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2008.

Surviving are three daughters, Virginia (Jerry) Hammond of Casey, Ill., Linda Napier of Memphis, Tenn., and Brenda (Don Logan, companion) of Edgewood, Ill.; a son, Delbert E. Napier of Edgewood; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Bob Shotts, Donnie Shotts, Elmer Shotts, and John Shotts; two sisters, Mable Bradford and Mary Shotts; and two grandchildren.

She attended the Martinsville Baptist Church. For many years she was a caregiver for the elderly. She had formerly been employed at TRW and Coil Sales, both in Marshall. She also had managed the former Goodwill Store in Marshall. She had helped her husband with farming. She loved gardening and did canning for her family and many others. She truly loved being around people.

Services in honor of her life will be 1 p.m. CST Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. 6th St., in Marshall, with Brother Art Orndorff officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, rural Martinsville, beside her husband on the date of their wedding anniversary. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time Monday at the funeral home. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Martinsville Baptist Church or to Lakeland Healthcare and Rehab Center in Effingham.
