Betty “Joann” Higgins

BRAZIL — Betty “Joann” Higgins passed away at the age of 85 on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at her residence at the Little Sisters of the Poor in Indianapolis. Joann was a faithful wife and loving mother. Having lived through the Great Depression, she understood hardship and hard work. She was employed at The Great A & P Tea Company until it closed. She then went on to other positions until she retired from Pillsbury.

She is the youngest of 10 children and was born July 31, 1927, in Brazil, Ind., to John and Maggie Grey who along with her siblings have preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband Percy Higgins, who passed away in 1984.

Joann is survived by her daughter, Terry Jean Decker and son, Randall Lee Higgins; grandsons, Damien and Dillon Higgins; granddaughter, Autumn Higgins. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services for Joann are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at St. Augustine Home for the Aged, 2345 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46260.  Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the time of services on Thursday. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday. Sept. 7th at Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
