Barbara Jane Carroll

PARIS, ILL. — Barbara Jane Carroll, 80, of Paris, passed away at 12:28 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. Barbara was a homemaker, a bookkeeper at the Coca-Cola Plant in Paris, and hosted a children’s story hour on WPRS. She was an avid bridge player who achieved Life Master status with the American Contract Bridge League, and was an artist who enjoyed painting. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Lola. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Choir, St. Mary’s Altar Society, the former C.D.of A., and was a member of the Bicentennial Art Center in Paris.

She was born the daughter of Lloyd and Janet Claybaugh Reynolds, on May 17, 1932, in Paris. She married James Thomas Carroll on Aug. 20, 1951, at St. Mary’s Church in Paris. He preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1995.

She is survived by her son, Tom Carroll and his wife Judy; grandson, Ryan Carroll and his wife Megan; granddaughter, Lindsay Englum and her husband Jacob; and four great-grandchildren, Harlee, Landen, McKenzie, and Gage, all of Paris, with her fifth great-grandchild expected in August to Ryan and Megan. She also is survived by a brother-in-law, Willie Zieren and his wife Jone of Charleston, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Catherine Levings and her husband Sam of Raleigh, N.C.; aunts, Marty Finney and Faye Doyle, both of Champaign, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She also was preceded in death by twin grandsons; one great-grandchild; and a brother-in-law, Richard Zieren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home, 303 E. Wood St., in Paris. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Paris. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
