Mary ‘Cookie’ Walters

TERRE HAUTE — Mary “Cookie” Walters, 90, of Terre Haute, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012, at Southwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 17, 1922, in Carrollton, Ill., to Charles Dickinson and Valentine Crawford Dickinson.

She is survived by daughter, Elizabeth McCowen; son, Charles Walters; six grandchildren, Larry Felgenhauer, Charles Walters, Terry Higgins, Lisa Little, Jeffrey Walters and Michelle Richardson; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benson Walters Jr.; daughter, Sandra Kay Felgenhauer, two brothers, Robert Dickinson and Walter Dickinson; four sisters, Dorothy Branan, Helen Robinson, Hazel Wagner, and Delores Edwards; granddaughter, Dawn Robinson; and grandson, Benson Duane Felgenhauer.

Mary was a Girl Scout leader for many years and she always enjoyed going to Camp Na Wa Kwa with the girl scouts. She was a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a member of Mount Pleasant North Campus Church.

Funeral services for Mary will be Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 Lafayette Ave., with Bishop Dennis Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with Order of the Eastern Star service at 7 p.m.
