David Albert ‘Abe’ Dennis

TERRE HAUTE — David Albert “Abe” Dennis was born in Terre Haute, on Nov. 29, 1919. He departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, while staying at Manor Care South Rehab Center in Indianapolis.

David was the youngest son of five children of Walter John Dennis and Lela Shepherd. He was a life-long resident of Terre Haute until moving to Indianapolis in 2007 to live with his daughter, Barbara. He was married to Helen Jean (Chester) Dennis for 60 years. She preceded him in death in 2006.

David was a World War II veteran, having served in North Africa until he was captured in March 1943. He spent 25 months as a German POW. David worked for Ethyl Visqueen for many years before retiring in 1982. Also, David gave many years of service as a Terre Haute Little League umpire.

Survivors include a son, Paul Dennis and wife Donna of Crestview Hills, Ky.; daughter, Barbara and husband Frank Walraven of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Tammra Worley, Travis and Troy Walraven, all of Indianapolis; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Byers, Stephanie and Brandon Worley, and Tristen Walraven.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Services will be at noon on Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor David Deal officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park with military rites performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Online condolences may be made at: www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
