TERRE HAUTE —
Lee E. Grove, 91, of Terre Haute, went to be with our Lord on Friday, June 1, 2012, at 1:30 a.m. in Union Hospital. He was a manager at AT&T and retired in 1979. Lee was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Evansville, to Arthur Grove and Edith (Kelly) Grove.
He is survived by his wife, Doris (Flick) Grove, whom he married Feb. 1, 1942; a daughter, Sue Gray and her husband David of Terre Haute; a son, Robert “Bob” Grove and his wife Elaine of Maryland; four grandchildren, Mike Ferris and his wife Tami, Mark Ferris, Tara Grove, and Tess Lemish and her husband Brad; four great-grandchildren, Kayla Ferris, Zachary Ferris, Makayla Ferris, and Makenzie Ferris; and a sister-in-law, Mary Joe Grove of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Thad Grove.
Lee was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, where he was a B-24 pilot. He was an active Cub Scout troop leader and for many years was the camp manager at Camp Wabashi. He was very active in his church, Church of Christ, where he was a song leader, elder, and deacon. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and playing tennis and was a runner in high school and continued that passion in later years by jogging and walking. He was an avid HAM radio operator and for several years after his retirement, he drove a bus for the Vigo County School Corporation.
Visitation is Monday, June 4, 2012, from 4 until 7 p.m. in Church of Christ, 1356 5th Ave., Terre Haute, with funeral services at 7 p.m. in the church with Lee’s grandson, Mike Ferris officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date in Roselawn Memorial Park, where Lawton-Byrum Post 972 will be conducting military honors. DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E.
