TERRE HAUTE — Clarence Daugherty, 91, of Terre Haute, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2012, in Meadows Manor North. He retired as a barber and had also retired as a plumber and pipefitter from Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 157 after many years of service to both. He also enjoyed working as a watch maker and engraver. He was born March 2, 1921, in York, Ill., to Grant and Etta Daugherty. His wife, Evelyn J. Daugherty, whom he married Dec. 24, 1962, preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 2011.

Survivors include three sons, Michael C. Creamer of Holiday, Fla., Russell E. Creamer, and Donald R. Daugherty, both of Terre Haute; a grandson, Anthony R. Creamer; a granddaughter, Melissa Hayden and husband Vern; two great-granddaughters, Madison and Abagail Hayden; a foster son, Joseph R. Hodges; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Sandy Meadlo; a niece, Edith York; a close friend and former son-in-law, Bud Hissem; and many friends. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Chris Daugherty; and two sisters, Martha Pine and Nellie Scott.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a naval petty officer. He was a member of American Legion Post 104, lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 291, and a charter member of the Terre Haute Horseshoe Club.

His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Kathy Roush officiating. Burial will be in Pleasantview Cemetery, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 104. Visitation will be noon until service time Thursday.
