TERRE HAUTE — Richard “Dick” L. Jarvis Sr., 90, of Terre Haute, Ind., passed away at his residence at 8:30 a.m Friday, July 27, 2012. He was born June 27, 1922, in Terre Haute, to Renos and Estelle Jarvis.

He was a 1940 graduate of Wiley High School and attended Purdue University. He belonged to Masonic Lodge No. 86, and attended First Church of Christ Scientist. He retired from the United States Post Office. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, 99th Infantry Division, and was awarded a purple heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Jarvis.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Luella Jarvis; a daughter, Diane Munier and husband Dennis; son, Richard Jarvis Jr. and wife Carrie; two grandchildren, Richard Jarvis III and Grant Jarvis.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2012, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 Lafayette Ave., in Terre Haute, with a visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. Officiating will be Clifford Simpson. Memorial contributions may be sent to First Church of Christ Scientist or the charity of their choice.
