Herman F. Beckman Jr.

UNIVERSAL — Herman F. Beckman Jr., 86, of Universal, passed away at 8:50 p.m., on Dec 8, 2012, in the Vermillion Convalescent Center. He was born April 16, 1926, in Terre Haute, to Herman F. Beckman Sr. and Opal Kennedy Beckman. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a print press operator for Standard Register. He was a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church and the Riley American Legion Post 328.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise Beckman on April 30, 2001; a brother, Richard D. Beckman; and a sister, Loretta Kerstein.

He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Beckman of Terre Haute, and Cheryl and Neal Woodard of Hillsdale; five grandchildren, Nicholas Woodard, Caleb Woodard and Alisha Woodard, all of Hillsdale, D.J. Overbey and Bryan Overbey, both of Indianapolis; and a sister, Louise Sweppy of Princeton.

Visitation will be Wednesday at Frist Funeral Home, in Clinton, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services are Thursday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Kent Beckman officiating. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 140 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6653. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute.
