Stevie “Joe” Pitts, 60, of Terre Haute, passed away at 4:03 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, in St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind.

He was born April 1, 1952, in Terre Haute, to Jesse James Pitts and Jewel Ida Shaffer Pitts.

Survivors include: his companion, Peggy Church; three children: Christopher Pitts and his companion, Stacey Welsh, Holly Eaton and her companion, Chris Reik, and Tim Kirkman and his wife, Michelle, all of Terre Haute; six brothers: David “Bud” Pitts, William “Pete” Pitts and his wife, Virginia, Richard “Dick” Pitts, Clifford “Luke” Pitts, Jack Pitts and his wife, Sue, and Ronald “Dean” Pitts and his wife, Kim; two sisters: Jerlean Franklin and her husband, George “Ike” Franklin, and Wanda Marshall and her husband, Jim; 11 grandchildren: Jennifer Johnson Pitts, Daniel Lee Pitts, Kassandra Marie Marshall, Sean Christopher Pitts, Laurissa, Dalton, and Alivia Cornelius, Josh Kirkman, Ian, Eric, and Lea; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and three sisters. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 501, and he loved to fish and hunt, especially mushroom hunting.

Funeral services for Joe will be 3 p.m. Monday, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Lowe officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Monday.
