Sister Mildred Anne Dudine

TERRE HAUTE — Sister Mildred Anne Dudine, 94, died at 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, in Mother Theodore Hall, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Sister was born Jan. 3, 1918, in Jasper, to Adam and Victoria Hoffman Dudine and was baptized Mildred Veronica.

Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Jan. 12, 1935, and professed final vows Aug. 15, 1943. She earned a bachelor’s degree from SMWC. In her 77 years as a Sister of Providence, Sister ministered as teacher of music for 55 years in schools in Indiana, Illinois, California and Washington, D.C. She taught at Sacred Heart School in Terre Haute in 1942-43. In 1992, she retired to Precious Blood Convent in her home town of Jasper, where she gave piano lessons part time. In 2003 she moved to the Motherhouse and dedicated herself totally to the ministry of prayer.

Sister is survived by her sister, Doris Dirksen, of Santa Maria, Calif. She is preceded in death by three sisters, Loretta Berger, Rosemary Buehler, and Alice J. Huls; and three brothers, Harold, Paul and Roman Dudine.

The wake is on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, with the Wake Service at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial is Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Daniel R. Hopcus presiding. Burial is in the cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Providence, 1 Sisters of Providence, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, IN 47876-1007
