TERRE HAUTE —
Virginia R. Darnell, 89, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 6:37 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born April 14, 1923, in Vigo County, to Carl Kiger and Corrine Schatz Kiger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster Darnell, on May 5, 2004.
Survivors include two sons, Harold L. Bierbaum and wife Judy, and Ricky Spencer, all of West Terre Haute; a daughter, Betty Darnell of West Terre Haute; two sisters, Rita Maddock and June Fowler, both of Marshall, Ill.; four grandchildren, Becky Kuelker and husband Mike, Dennis Bierbaum, Denise Dobson and husband David, and Chris Bierbaum; 10 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a great grandchild; two sisters, Donna Green and Nancy Kiger; and five brothers, Bobby Kiger, Buddy Kiger, Otto Kiger, Billy Kiger, and Carl Kiger.
She had worked at Miller Parrot Bakery, in Terre Haute, many years ago. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 428 in West Terre Haute. She also enjoyed crocheting and watching western movies.
Virginia’s funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sonny Haumesser officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today. The family kindly suggests that if friends so desire, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society or to Autism Awareness, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
