Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Tong Stallings

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Gertrude “Trudy” Tong Stallings, 95, died on Friday, July 27, 2012, in Mother Theodore Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. Trudy was born on May 8, 1917, to Columbus and Teresa Tong, in Rome, Ky., and lived most of her life in Evansville, Ind.

Trudy was a charter member of Christ the King Parish and a long-time supporter of Reitz Memorial High School. She was proud to have been a member of the Bruté Society, an honorary association recognizing Christian stewardship in the Diocese of Evansville. She was a member of the Saint Monica Altar Society, St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, the D.A.R., Evansville Country Club, Evansville Kennel Club, and numerous bridge clubs.

She is survived by her six children, Larry (Neosho) Stallings of Saint Louis; Ron (Vicki) Stallings of Atlanta; Cleo Terry of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; Denise Summers of Boca Raton, Fla.; Sister Lisa Stallings of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, and Steve (Jill) Stallings of Newburgh, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mayola Montgomery, Betty Stallings, and Mary McCormick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Trudy was preceded in death by her parents; six siblings; by Denis, her husband of 46 years; her infant daughter, Angela Marie; and her grandson, Patrick.

The wake will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, with the vigil service at 4:30 p.m. Visitation continues at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3010 E. Chandler Avenue, Evansville, 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, with the mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Evansville. Ziemer Funeral Home, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, assisted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of Providence, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, IN 47876.
