MARSHALL, Ill. —
Dr. Bruce McGarity Wellum, age 76, of Marshall, passed away at 3:50 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was born on April 14, 1936, to George H. Wellum and Iasbella Wellum in Kitchner, Ontario, Canada. He married Mary Strader on Dec. 27, 1958, in Davenport, Iowa.
Dr. Wellum was a practicing chiropractor of 51 years.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Marshall; one daughter, Cheryl Wellum of Bloomington, Ind.; two sons, Dr. Jeffrey Wellum and his wife Kellie of West Terre Haute, Ind., and Robert Wellum and his wife Amber of Marshall; four grandchildren, Pierce, Jackson, Emelia, and Ryan; two brothers, Dr. Colin Wellum and his wife Joan and George Wellum; and one sister, Mary Ann Howden. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a 1961 graduate of Palmer College. He was an avid snow skier, scuba diver, and sang with the Banks of the Wabash Chorus.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. CDT on Monday, July 30, 2012, at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. 6th St., in Marshall, with Father Mike Haag and Brother Steven Wellum officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Banks of the Wabash Chorus.
